MALIBU – Britney Spears issued a brief press release yesterday explaining her decision to appear naked in the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar. According to Ms. Spears, her choice was “the next logical step” in her campaign “to keep it real for my fans.”
The first step in that campaign, Ms. Spears’ decision to do her own hair and makeup for her recent appearance on the Today show, played to mixed reviews. Some observers applauded her for attempting to deconstruct the myth of celebrity while others asked if Stevie Wonder had applied her cosmetics.
Hoping to head off similar debate this time, Ms Spears offered the following reasons for appearing naked in Harper’s and for changing her hair color.
10. Parenting magazine turned me down.
9. Appearing naked in Playboy really helped Jessica Alba’s career.
8. When you’re naked, nobody can criticize your taste in clothes.
7. To prove I don’t have stretch marks.
6. People go around naked in Namibia
5. I lost a bet with Lindsay Lohan.
4. I’m country.
3. Babies stick to you better when you’re naked.
2. Dark hair doesn’t show the dirt as quickly.
1. I wanted all my hair to be the same color.
